In ancient Greece Gold jewellery was mostly worn for public appearances or on special occasions. It was frequently given as a gift and was predominantly used by women to show wealth, social status and beauty.

Much of this jewellery was made from gold and silver with ivory and gems. It was either cast in stone or clay moulds or hammered out of sheet metal.
