Battle of Hastings Coin Pack - William I
Quantity:  2.15

Harold II had been crowned King of England in January 1066. He faced invasions by William of Normandy and his own brother Tostig. He defeated his brother at the Battle of Stamford Bridge on 25 September 1066.

While Harold and his army recovered from Stamford, William landed an invasion force in the South of England. Harold was forced to march South gathering forces as he went.

The Battle of Hastings was fought on 14 October 1066. Early efforts by William to break the English battle lines failed. The Normans then pretended to retreat and as the English troops pursued them their cavalry attacked. This weakened Harold's army. Later in the day Harold was killed and the Battle was over. William became King of England.

This wallet type packaging has a reproduction pewter William I Penny held in a blister on the front. On the inside and reverse there is information about the Battle of Hastings.
