Once humans started using objects to create sounds, musical instruments were born. Early musical instruments may have been used for ritual, such as a horn to signal the start of a hunt or a drum in a religious ceremony. Cultures eventually developed the composition of melodies for entertainment.
Musical instruments evolved in step with the changing applications. Traditional instruments such as the violin, flute, trumpet and harp are largely the same as those manufactured throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. However, with the introduction of electricity new electronic instruments were created such as electric guitars.
This Saxophone is made from pewter and is supplied on a pin with clasp. The information card gives a brief history of the evolution of musical instruments.
