Gibbet Pendant
Quantity:  £2.00

Dungeons were built under castles and in prisons. These dungeons were usually pitch black and filthy with disease. Prisoners who were held there were treated very badly and from the earliest times torture was used to punish them or get them to confess to their crimes. There were many different types of torture instruments all made to inflict horrific pain. A prisoner may be hung alive in chains (called a Gibbet) until his flesh rotted, or have their body stretched until the bones and joints broke on a machine called a Rack. Many prisoners were beheaded and their heads were stuck on poles in towns as a warning to people not to commit a crime.

This Gibbet Pendant is made from lead-free pewter and is supplied on a waxed cord. The information card is full colour on the front and has historical information on the reverse.
