The earliest bird fossils belong to a genus (group) called Archaeopteryx that lived about 140 million years ago during the Jurassic Period. Archaeopteryx resembled a reptile but was covered in feathers and so is classed as a bird. It was about 60cm long and ate small animals and insects. Unlike modern birds Archaeopteryx had teeth, a reptile like tail and three claws on each wing. It is believed that these claws were used to climb trees. The word Archaeopteryx means 'Ancient Wing'.
This Archaeopteryx pendant is made from lead-free pewter and is supplied on a waxed cord. The information card is full colour on the front and has historical information on the reverse.
