The sea reptiles evolved from land reptiles that adapted to life in water. All the sea reptiles breathed air and would surface regularly to fill their lungs. Sea reptiles like the Plesiosaurs and turtles hauled themselves onto beaches to lay their eggs. Only the Ichthyosaurus gave birth to live young at sea. The Ichthyosaurus was similar in shape to modern dolphins and measured about 2m in length. It fed on fist, shellfish and similar smaller sea reptiles.
One of the largest sea retiles was the Pliosaurus that measured about 7m in length. It lived in the seas during the Jurassic period and was a formidable hunter, crushing its prey with its strong jaws and sharp teeth.
This Ichthyosaurus pendant is made from lead-free pewter and is supplied on a waxed cord. The information card is full colour on the front and has historical information on the reverse.
