During the 16th century there were many different coins in circulation. They were the gold ryal that was introduced during the reign of Henry VII and the gold angel. There were also crowns, half-crowns, groats, half-groats, sixpences and farthings. During the mid-16th century, a common labourer would make around one shilling per day. All coins were made from silver or gold, including pennies.
This reproduction Elizabeth I Sixpence is made from pewter and comes on a waxed cord. The information card is full colour on the front and has historical information on the reverse.
