This
medal is a reproduction mini Distinguished Flying Cross. Established for
officers and warrant officers of the RAF in respect of acts of valour while
flying in active operations against the enemy. The DFC is issued unnamed but
Second World War crosses usually have the year of issue engraved on the
reverse. After the 1993 it was decided that this medal could be awarded to
both officers and other ranks. The medal is 17mm
wide and is made from lead-free pewter and silver plated.
The
card has a colour painting Hurricanes of No.79 Squadron attacking bombers
over London on the front and historical information on the back.
