The
earliest bird fossils belong to a genus (group) called Archaeopteryx that
lived about 140 million years ago during the Jurassic period. Archaeopteryx
resembled a reptile but was covered in feathers and so is classed as a bird.
It was about 60cm long and ate small animals and insects. Unlike modern
birds Archaeopteryx had teeth, a reptile like tail and three claws on each
wing. It is believed that these claws were used to climb trees. The pendant is
42mm wide and is manufactured in traditional
lead-free pewter. Supplied with wax cord.
The
card has a colour image depicting an Archaeopteryx on the front and historical information on the back.
