In
the Middle Ages a metal thimble was known as a 'thymel'. This reproduction
of a ring-type thymel would have been used for sewing coarser materials
where the side of the finger was used for pushing the needle through, rather
than the finger tip. The thimble is 8mm tall and is manufactured in a base
white metal that is bronze plated.
The
thimble is presented in a clear PVC box with card insert. The card is white and is printed in
brown, it shows a medieval scene and gives historical information.
