Serpents and other mythical
beasts were popular in both Greek and Roman times. They appeared on
jewellery items such as torcs and rings as well as on mosaics and coins.
Serpents were only one of various animals in legend supposed to be like a
snake in shape but usually of enormous size and often living in the sea or a
lake. The ring is 15mm diameter, expandable and is manufactured in traditional
lead-free pewter and gold plated.
The
card has a colour image depicting two sea beasts from Fishbourne Roman
Palace on the front and historical information on the back.
