George V - Shilling:  (obverse) old head of George V; (reverse) lion rampant on crown.

1865 - George V is born (3rd June).

1893 - Marries his cousin, May of Teck, at St. James' Palace (6 July).

1910 - Becomes King and Emperor of India on the death of his father Edward VII.

1911 - Crowned at Westminster Abbey (22 June).

1912 - SS Titanic sinks on her maiden voyage.

1914-18 - First World War.

1914 - The Battles of Mons, Marne and Ypres.

1915 - Second Battle of Ypres and the failed Gallipoli campaign remove Turkey from the War.

1916 - Battle of the Somme and the naval Battle of Jutland between the British and German navies that ended in a stalemate. David Lloyd George becomes prime minister.

1917 - Battle of Passchendaele and the Russian revolution that leads to the abdication of the star.

1918 - Reform act gives votes to women over 30. Allied forces counter attack breaking through on the western front. Armistice signed between Germany and the allies bringing World War I to an end.

1935 - George V celebrates his silver jubilee.

1936 - George V dies at Sandringham.
