|
This medal was designed for air operations over Europe from 1939-1944. It was awarded for operational flying from UK bases over Europe, for a period of two months between 3 September 1939 and 4 June 1944. This star is by far the most coveted of all the Second World War stars. The officially named South African star is the rarest of all the Second World War Medals. CLASP - Entitlement to either the Atlantic Star or France and Germany Star was denoted by the appropriate bar. COVER IMAGE - A Handley Page Halifax flies over the German target during a daylight raid. The Handley Page Halifax heavy bomber together with the Avro Lancaster provided the principal means whereby bomber command fought the Battle over Germany. |
