Product History

The ancient Egyptians believed in the power of the gods. They worshipped them by holding festivals and by taking offerings to the temples where they were thought to have lived. The gods were represented in different forms, many of them being part animal, and were believed to have special powers.

Horus was the sky god and was represented as a falcon-headed man. As the sky god, the sun and the moon were his eyes and his wings stretched across the heavens. He was connected with the divinity of the pharaoh, who was seen as the 'living Horus'.

Horus damaged his left eye, the moon, when he was involved in a lengthy struggle against his uncle Seth, who had murdered his father, Osiris. The mythological explanation of the moon's phases was that the eye was healed by the god Thoth.
