Product History

Single Knight in Armour Front & Back

The word 'knight' means 'mounted warrior'. By the 1100s a code of chivalry had been developed by which knights were expected to defend his Christian faith, to behave honourably towards his enemies and to protect the weak and poor. By the 1200s the landscape was dominated by knight's castles. Towns began to develop around castles. The towns grew rapidly as merchants traded their goods from all over Europe. The Church played an important role during these times. In the 11th and 12th century large numbers of knights left Europe on Crusade in the name of Christianity. The church promised them that all their sins would be forgiven if they died on crusade. Many Crusaders did die on the dangerous journey from Europe to the Middle East.
