Moon Gazing Hare

Product History

Moon Gazing Hare

The Myth of the hare-in-the-moon is almost universal and goes back to ancient times. The hare is always an attribute of lunar deities and can symbolize fertility. The hare was important to early Britons; Boadicea would release a hare at the beginning of each new campaign against the Romans. In nature today hares can be seen, as indeed they would have been by the ancients, silhouetted against the evening sky line in this very 'moon-gazing pose. Our moon-gazing hare is of Chinese origin, gazing at what he see's as his ancient ancestor the moon.
