 Mammoth Tusk Pendant

The ice age is a period in earth's history when ice sheets covered large regions of land. Earth scientists believe there have been several main ice ages, each of which lasted a few million years.

The climate grew cooler in the late Cenozoic Era about 65 million years ago, which led to an ice age. During the ice age glaciers advanced and retreated several times over large areas of the earth. Huge lumbering Mammoths and Woolly Rhinoceroses roamed the frozen lands. Their thick, shaggy costs helped them adapt to the cold. Many kinds of prehistoric mammals had become extinct by the time the last glaciers retreated some 10,000 years ago. They included sloths, mammoths, sabre-toothed tigers and woolly rhinoceros.
