|
|||
|
The sea reptiles evolved from land reptiles that adapted to life in water. All the sea reptiles breathed air and would surface regularly to fill their lungs. Sea reptiles like the Plesiosaurs and turtles hauled themselves onto beaches to lay their eggs. Only the Ichthyosaurus gave birth to live young at sea. The Ichthyosaurus was similar in shape to modern dolphins and measured about 2m in length. It fed on fish, shellfish and smaller sea reptiles. One of the largest sea reptiles was the Pliosaurus that measured about 7m in length. It lived in the seas during the Jurassic period and was a formidable hunter, crushing its prey with its strong jaws and sharp teeth. |
