|
Dolphin - In Roman and Greek times dolphins and other sea creatures were very popular. They appeared on art, architecture, mosaics and jewellery. Dolphins were a favourite as they were attributed to the Roman water god, Neptune and the Greek god of the sea Poseidon. Serpents and other sea beasts were also used in jewellery on finger rings, torcs and necklaces. Most jewellery was made from cheap bronze or sometimes glass. Gold and silver was also used but only the wealthy could afford to buy it. |
