Hawker Hurricane Mk I

Product History

Hawker Hurricane Mk I in Box

The Hurricane was powered by a 12 cylinder 1,030-hp Rolls Royce Merlin engine and had a top speed of 324 mph. It was armed with 8 x .303 Browning machine guns mounted in the wings. The Hawker Hurricane came to be regarded as one of the most rugged and reliable fighters in RAF service. It could turn inside any contemporary fighter in the world and played a crucial role in the Battle of Britain.

The Hawker Hurricane destroyed more German aircraft than the whole of the British defences, including the Spitfire squadrons. They outnumbered the Spitfires and also concentrated on attacking the German bombers, which were easier targets than the Luftwaffe fighters.
