St. Peter's Apostle Spoon

Product History

Apostle spoons received their name because each is surmounted by a small figure of one of the Apostles bearing the symbol associated with him. They were made in England in great numbers until 1654. A favourite christening gift in Tudor and early Stuart times, a set of thirteen would be given by the wealthy, while those of lesser means would give four, representing the Evangelists.
St. Peter was a fisherman who became one of the apostles of Jesus Christ. He was a leader of the early Christian community in Jerusalem and is a prominent figure in the New Testament of the Bible. Peter denied Jesus three times, but was commissioned again after the resurrection.
