Viking Ship Spoon

Product History

Viking Ship Spoon

A replica of the Gokstad Viking ship (Length: 76.5 feet, Beam: 17.5 feet) crossed the Atlantic in 1893 in 4 weeks, proving the seaworthiness of these craft. Some had up to 35 pairs of oars. Shields, often painted in bright colours, were used, but only when fighting or when in harbour. Steering was by a special oar or board fitted on the right side of the stern - hence the name Starboard (steer-board) to define the right side of the ship.
