Information: The Victory Medal was established in September 1919 shortly after the end of the First World War. It was issued to British and Imperial forces who had already got the 1914 or 1914/15 stars and most of those who had received the British War medal.
Over six million Victory medals were issued and to qualify one had to be mobilised in any service and have entered a theatre of war between 5 August 1914 and 11 November 1918.
The Victory medal is often known as the Allied War Medal as the same basic design and ribbon was adopted by thirteen other Allied nations.
